"This band of miscreants from Minneapolis make an auspicious full length debut on Looking For A Painful Death. Their fucked up vision comes into full bloom after releasing a bunch of promising EPs and one split 7″. Minneapolis has a fine history of birthing great noise punk band bands and labels. Tongue Party adds to that rich, soiled undergarment of a history, delivering a full on body blow of an album.

Sonically, they merge filthy, fuzzed out and slashing riffs with a nimble, yet mauling bass attack, and drums that beat out an almost robot like rhythm, that’s pretty close to kraut rock, if kraut rock went on full on thrashing, shit fits from time to time. It also veers into ugly, pseudo-psychedelic rock at times. In addition, they like to keep it short and sweet. Most songs are under three minutes, while a few go under two. There is one glaring exception to this rule, which I’ll talk about later on. All this adds to quite the adrenaline rush." 4/5

"It's war. If you are looking for a painful death, the first Tongue Party album is your secret weapon. Looking For A Painful Death has everything you need in store. A sub-machine gun that fires at a crazy speed to split the flesh. A noise-rock capable of taking a trashy look at the Oozing Wound . A continuous and systematic aggression. Guerrilla tactics with short attacks, precise and ruthless. Except on the last title Make A Friend, Earn A Debt who finishes you in long suffering beyond five minutes. Discovered on a split with USA Nails, the group of Minneapolis has added a big hair of power, the one that makes Whores vibrate with this side stoner in full sprint of death. It's sometimes ticking, it stresses even like the rhythm and the flow of This Exists but the sticky heaviness and the violence characterized can also make ravages of madness that leave beautiful traces of blood. Tongue Party likes when it fights all the way, that it hurts severe without breathing too much, without calculating too much, even if it means playing the same score. A monolithic album of a beautiful pink-purple that turns in 45 laps. Not to get faster at the end but for the sound to explode with a thousand fires, that we be beaten in a minimum of time. With Looking For A Painful Death , you get what you pay for. For the rest, I leave you free of your way to die."

"I don’t know how this band gets their tone but it’s so ridiculously gnarly that listening to it is like trying to walk through a wall made of slimy bees. Yeah, that’s my analogy for the day. Also, this band is named ‘Tongue Party’. Let all this grossness seep into you and then you might be ready for the new full length from these Midwest garbage dwellers. Lots of fuzzy, beefy, ugly riffs abound here, which stop and start on a dime while blasting between unbridled noise rock Valhalla and revved up speedy hardcore-thrash. They did a split not too long ago with USA Nails (another amazing band that I’d just like plug as a sidebar) and that was my first introduction, and they kind of stole the show. This record just comes full force tenfold from that and I’m pleased as punch that they sound as weird and ugly as they do. This record contains a song called “I Can Shit Anywhere”. I respect their commitment to form. Well done."

"This is some good shit. Tongue Party play addictive sludge and fuzz infused AmpRep style Noise Rock, for the gnarly weirdos out there who into stuff like Mutoid Man, Lightning Bolt, and Karp. I know there are four dudes in this band, but I swear there are two fucking basses in this band. That distorted low end is so fat and overpowering, but it'd the kinda noise I crave. Plus this is pretty relentless front to back. Riffs are shot out like laser beams in some sort of intergalactic warfare, and they pulverize you like colliding craters, turning you into space dust.
Not to say there isn't any variations in the speed on this, because there definitely is. As far as the drum beats go they are ping ponging all over the place. However, it the intensity that remains constant throughout, and it's just full speed ahead blowing your warp whistle and traveling through neon colored worm hole nightmares. It's simple and brutish, with a snotty attitude, and the temperament of a three headed mutant covered in slime. There's no way to get around it. This is definitely one of my favorite releases of the year, and a pleasant surprise to stumble upon. Well done dudes! Cheers!"

"There are few noise rock records from this year that come close to capturing the gnarled, blood-spitting noise punk grind of the mid-to-late 90’s as Tongue Party have on their debut full length. These Minneapolis, Minnesota twentysomethings make it all sound easy as they bludgeon and groove their way through dirty riffs and mechanically separated rhythms but the draw for me was the combination of the slap of it all with the lyrics that directly question basic bullshit you see every day with idiots. There is this damned flippant ‘fuck you’ happening at the core of ‘Looking for a Painful Death’ that is exhilarating for folks like me who got a little bit older and gave up caring. On the same coin you could say the cynicism is childish but it matters less when they capture it so honestly."

"....Looking For A Painful Death is the band's latest LP, which was released via Learning Curve records on May 5th, 20178. On Looking For A Painful Death, Tongue Party offer up nine tracks of sludgy/blown-out punk, grunge and noise rock. Overall, Looking For A Painful Death makes for an amazing listen and definitely should not be missed. Highly recommended! Enjoy!"
